Overview

Skype2OneNote will record all your Skype calls, transparently, with little or no user interaction.  Calls are automatically recorded and saved to your computers hard drive.   A very easy to use interface is also provided allowing you to name each call as they come in, discard calls, or end recording early and save the call.

If you are a Microsoft OneNote 2007 user, you may also save the call directly in a notebook page.  Calls can be saved automatically to your Unfiled Notes section, or within the page you are currently editing.  During a call, you have the option to open an existing notebook page, or to create a new one.

Recorded calls are also optionally saved to your hard disk.  Notes may be added to the filename, along with the caller's name, number, and the date/time of the call.

AudioMarks allow you to create 'bookmarks' during a call.  This allows you to mark a particular portion of a call with a note for easy retrieval later.

What's New in Version 2.0

In version 2.0 we have added Audio Marks.

Skype Call Recording

Calls are recorded in high quality MP3 format.  Call recording is completely automatic, beginning when a call comes in, or when you place an outgoing call.

Both the incomming audio levels and the outgoing audio levels are displayed, along with the caller's name, number, and the duration of the call.

Recording can be ended at any time, either saving the call or discarding it.

OneNote Integration

During recording, you have the option to save the call to simply save the call to Unfiled Notes, or you can open OneNote to a specific page.  You also have the option to create a new page, or simply save the call to whatever page you currrently have open.

Calls are saved in a very clean and precise format, with the optional fields of Caller Name, Caller Number, Duration, Date Time, and AudioMarks.

AudioMarks

Nothing is worse than recording a conversation, only to go back and try to find a very specific portion of the conversation, having to listen to it in its entirety, or scan forward and backward in a frustration manner.

AudioMarks allows you to create labled bookmarks during a conversation, similar to a bookmark.  AudioMarks are saved directly within OneNote, allowing a single click to begin playing from that part of the conversation.  OneNote users are now able to mark a conversation during recording, and add specific notes to that section of the call.

Included with Skype2OneNote is the AudioMarks player, which allows a recorded to call to be played back at the appropriate position.

History of Skype2OneNote

Why was Skype2OneNote developed?  Skype is a fantastic telephony program.  Microsoft OneNote 2007 is also in indespensible tool for ogranizing information.  The integration of these program is a very natural fit.

Skype2OneNote v1.0 began life as an inhouse project.  Our developers, designers, and managers all use Skype and OneNote.  As a normal business process, we record most of our technial discussions for later review and documentation.  There are many Skype call recorders available, many are free and work well, simply saving the recorded call to hard disk.

It became a tedious task to manually copy a call into OneNote, although not hard or time consuming, it was simply a process that was sometimes overlooked.  Going back through a simple directory containing many calls was a tedious process, especially when looking for a call that occured many months ago.

The need for integration between Skype and OneNote is a very natural fit.  We developed this program so that a recorded call is automatically placed in OneNote, and we provide an interface which makes organizing the call within OneNote a very easy task.

Having all our calls now organized within OneNote was very convient, however there was still an issue that surfaced again and again.  Although it was very easy to now find the recorded conversation that occured several weeks past, with a specific customer, it was not easy to find the specific portion of the call where we disucssed a certain aspect of a project.  Therefore, we would simply listen to most of the call, seeking manually with our audio player until we found the portion of the conversation we needed.

This is what promted the idea for AudioMarks.  During a recording, it simply makes sense to save specific timestamps, along with a label, and save this information inside OneNote also.  This makes possible the ability to not only locate the call, but to have listed along side several descriptive labels for specifc portions of the call.  When used properly, any significant portion of the call can very quickly be played back.

Having now created what we believe to be a very usefull tool, we decided to offer it to the public.   We hope you enjoy it and find it as usefull as we have!
